There's not such a thing as "Random"! (Jan 2007)

We were just starting roleplaying, my brother, my best friend and I. We new nothing about it, but had somewhat got our hands on a RM 2nd edition ruleset, and so I read them and we started playing.

I doubled as GM and player, 'cause I wanted to play as well. As it happens, my character was the typical dwarf muscle wielding a morning star. Newbies as we were, we took the rules (or what we understood of them) to the letter!

We're in the middle of a fight, the dwarf fumbles and gets a crit on himself: crush crit, break your own leg! He lies there until he's helped by the human rogue and the elven wizard. So Bantor (that was his name) needs some bed rest...the rogue and the wizard hire some local muscle to finish the mission, and are killed trying!

New characters for my brother and friend, and Bantor joins them again. Later, he fumbles again...same fumble result, same crit! We decide he broke the same leg, again (tender spot). During his resting, the party is again decimated!

Needless to say, no other party wanted Bantor ever to join them again. I never understood that, since nobody died when HE was around, but hell...player mentality :) Ever since then, I sometimes mention a "utterly lucky and blessed by the Gods dwarf king, named Bantor or such" in all my campaigns that have dwarfs.

A ‘Hands across Kulthea’ Moment

by C.M. Lyons

Well, my Rolemaster Moment has to be when we were playing our hyper-powerful characters we had been playing for years, and in service to the Lords of Orhan we had run into some massive trouble. Our DM was rolling to see if we could get some assistance from the Lords in the demon realm where we were trapped (by Kadina or somebody can’t remember) because otherwise we were basically all dead. So we said to the DM “since the entire world hangs in the balance, shouldn’t everyone be rooting for us? Shouldn’t this be like a ‘Hands across Kulthea’ moment?” We got a good laugh out of that, although the “Hands across America” reference is pretty dated now, it was damn funny then. Oh, and yes we survived…
